Performance Evaluation of a Field-Scale Anaerobic Baffled Reactor as an Economic and Sustainable Solution for Domestic Wastewater Treatment

The present study explored the efficiency of a four-chambered anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) as cost-effective and sustainable method organic pollutant pathogen removal from domestic wastewater, under range environmental conditions. An ABR with circular additional filter at outlet pipe was constructed to treat wastewater residential colony 108 households an average inflow 110 m3/day nominal hydraulic retention time (HRT) 20 h. Analysis chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen, sulfate phosphate load, coliform for 2 years operation, 2015 2017, showed COD 46%, load 28%, 51% nitrogen 28% 2015, compared 48%, 44%, 58% 31% 2017. lack significant effect sludge suggested stable process. overall increased in summer, including removal, which significantly higher during summer months both years. Overall, found be able consistently primary although tertiary effluent treatment still required before water reuse or final discharge.
